Nevada artist/social media consultant and graphic designer, Chad Sorg will be living in a display window in Austin, TX the week after the SXSW Interactive/Film and Music Conference: http://www.sxsw.com. He'll be living for 120 continual hours in a shop window to be announced. He'll be visible from the street.
The artist has been performing ArtistFishbowl since 2007. He's been featured in the New York Times, as one of the founders of NadaDada Motel, June 22, 2009. Articles in Reno Gazette Journal, Reno Magazine, Las Vegas' Vurb Magazine, and God Hates Reno and Reno Passport appearing online and in print.
Mostly drawing and making videos, the artist also streams live on Ustream.com and the interaction he engages in with others is the focus of his project. ArtistFishbowl is predominantly a social experiment which the artist has paradoxically coined "public solitude". To heighten his own social motivations, Sorg will be bringing in very minimal food supplies and asking his online audience to feed him.
Talking and sharing on Facebook is a light-hearted venture, but the benefit of relationships built there become deeply engaging. Sorg continues to write about the medium. The concern is with human interaction and how technology dictates its evolution. Chad Sorg is part of a long line of live-in performance artists, including the Dada artists, the Fluxus movement and more recently, British "living sculptures", Gilbert & George.
Sorg was one of the founders of NadaDada Motel, was a co-owner of Blue Lyon Gallery, has curated for the Nevada Arts Council and Sierra Arts Gallery, and taught art at Truckee Meadows Community College and the Nevada Museum of Art. He's also done public commissions for the City of Sparks, NV, various banks and Carson Tahoe Hospital as well as Stremmel Gallery's Renown Hospital commission project in 2008.
