A party with a bunch of artists last night has left me thinking about where the art lies in this ArtistFishbowl project. Where's the art?
Thinking in terms of PR and social media and these concepts that are thought of as not very art-like, I consider how quickly people need to "get it". ArtistFishbowl. Get it? No?
It's understandable to me that people are left wondering just what it's all about. I'm looking for myself. In this project, some of my deepest concerns are coming out. I've got one document/manifesto called "The 5ive Facets of the Fishbowl". I'll mention them here:
1. Exhibitionism/Voyeurism
2. Physical vs. Virtual
3. Art Marries Business
4. Homelessness a.k.a. 'The New Transience'
5. What IS an artist?
It's all about the path isn't it? Devising the format of this thing has been such an exploration, I'm not sure if I ever really wanna' figure it out.
At the moment, I'm thinking about how I've always wanted to be an artist. I've always wanted to be known as an artist and make art in my life. This is what I want. But as they say, if you wanna be a writer, write. It's simple, so if I make art, then I am one.
Maybe it's the name of this thing that's throwing off my trajectory but maybe not. As you see, the 5th facet ponders just what the word means. Am I an artist because I call myself one? Is blogging an art?
